On 20 June 2015, the handrails of the footbridges on Opatowicka Sluice will be composed of several hundred ceramic elements made by people who feel socially excluded. In May, we will arrange for every interested party to make an imprint of their hand. Each meeting will be an opportunity to discuss reasons for the exclusion, and fragments of the conversations will be used in the soundtrack of the installation.
On the final day everybody crossing the river will be able to make a symbolic gesture of reconciliation – the act of shaking hands with the people who feel socially marginalized – as well as to listen to the reasons for this uncomfortable situation. We hope the HUG project will contribute to drawing attention to the problems of those who live among us, as well as understanding human needs, both theirs and ours.
